The Society for Airway Management (SAM) is comprised of a multidisciplinary group of health care providers from Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Otolaryngology, Critical Care, and Pulmonology, as well as CRNAs, NPs, PAs, paramedics and nurses. The SAM 23rd Annual Scientific Meeting and Workshop
has been developed to feature international experts in the various fields of medicine dealing with airway management. Many aspects of difficult airway management, in a variety of clinical settings, will be highlighted. This course will consist of plenary presentations, small group round table discussions, hands-
on workshops, and research poster rounds. Audience engagement will be encouraged with question periods and an audience response system.

The theme of this year’s meeting is:

Improving the Safety of Airway Management Across Multiple Clinical Settings

COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of the conference, the participant will be able to:

  1.  Understand the various published airway guidelines (ASA, CAFG, PUMA)
  2. Learn the important concepts learned from airway registry data in multiple clinical environments
    (prehospital, emergency department, intensive care unit)
  3. Describe the different airway management strategies for patients with physiologically difficult airways
  4. Discuss the different airway management strategies for obese patients requiring sedation outside the
    operating room
  5. Understand the importance of timing of intubation in the management of hypoxemic COVID patients
  6. Evaluate the role of different airway management strategies (face mask ventilation, supraglottic device
    ventilation and tracheal intubation) in patients with cardiac arrest
  7. Describe the important airway considerations in the pediatric patient requiring intubation
  8. Learn the important airway considerations in the parturient requiring intubation
