The Society for Airway Management (SAM) was founded in 1995
SAM was created by a group of physicians dedicated to the practice, teaching and scientific advancements of the field of airway management.
SAM was created as an interdisciplinary forum of physicians and non-physicians who practice airway management and contribute to its scientific advancement by encouraging new technologies, research, education and teaching.
SAM members include Anesthesiologists, Nurse Anesthetists, Emergency Medicine Physicians, Pulmonologists, Critical Care Specialists, Surgeons, Paramedics, EMTs, Respiratory Therapists, members of industry and others from more than 20 countries worldwide

We provide SAM member opportunities to participate in the latest information concerning airway management through our on-line forum (DocMatter).
SAM has a range of airway research projects in our Special Projects
We welcome practitioners and trainees from multiple backgrounds, including Anesthesiology, Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine, Surgery and Nursing.
As an international, multi-disciplinary airway management society we have many SAM Chapters from multiple countries outside the USA
We have an annual scientific meeting with lectures, small group activities and workshops. New SAM members are encouraged to contribute to the meeting with poster presentations.
In 2023, we initiated a USA Airway Lead network involving SAM members
As a friendly society, there are social events and yearly opportunities to meet like-minded airway management enthusiasts and airway experts from around the world.
SAM is linked to other airway management societies internationally and we are a major contributor to the World Airway Management Meeting (WAMM) which is being planned at the moment.
