Carin Hagberg, MD, FACHE, FASA, is the recipient of the 2025 ASA Excellence in Education Award. Dr. Hagberg is the Senior Vice President and Chief Academic Officer of the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Hagberg is responsible for charting the strategic direction of MD Anderson’s academic mission. She provides oversight and integration in the academic life of more than 1,800 faculty. She is a practicing anesthesiologist, a renowned expert in neuroanesthesia, and a leading authority in the management of patients with difficult airways. Dr. Hagberg is a past president and serves as an advisor to the Board of Directors of the SAM.
