Be a part of one of the most rewarding sections of the annual meeting.  Plan to submit your abstract for consideration for poster presentation.  The Top 6 abstracts will be nominated for oral presentation during the meeting. The top three abstracts overall will be awarded a SAM ribbon in recognition for their outstanding contribution to the meeting and the advancement of airway management.

Details regarding abstract & posters for the 2016 SAM Annual Meeting:

  1. The Abstract Deadline is July 1st, 2016 at midnight EST
  2. All abstracts to be submitted to the following email: samabstracts@gmail.com
  3. All participants who have an accepted abstract should bring their physical poster to the SAM meeting
  4. Posters are to have a maximum width of 48 inches & height of 36 inches
  5. Posters can be mounted on Friday Sep 16th and must be removed by Sunday morning (Sept. 18th)
  6. Moderated Poster walk-around rounds will take place on Saturday Sept. 17, 1:00 pm or 3:00 pm
  7. The top 6 abstracts  will be presented orally on Friday Sep 16, 1:30 pm-3:00 pm

Abstract Submission Details

General instructions:

  • 250 words maximum; limit of one figure and one table; any overage will be truncated
  • Submissions in a word document format, file sent via e-mail to samabstracts@gmail.com (Times New Roman, size 12 preferred)
  • Presenting author should be listed in bold, name of institution, conflict of interested should be disclosed, financial support should be acknowledged.

Please follow the following order:

  1. Title of abstract
  2. Authors (last name, then first name):
  3. Institution(s)
  4. Use following headings:
    Studies: (observational, retrospective, randomized trials): Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion
    Case report series: Background, Case presentation, Discussion
    **All studies involving human subject should state that the IRB/ ethical board approved the study in the first line of the Methods section
  5. Please pre-categorize your submission into one of the following topics (please state this in the subject of the email when submitting):
    Airway equipment, Novel techniques, Case report, Imaging of airway, Assessment and planning for airway management, Airway outside the OR (ICU/ED), Education and training, Airway management inside the OR, Pediatric airway management, Obstetric airway management
  6. Please answer the following when submitting:
    Is the presenter a Trainee? YES or NO
    Is the presenter applying for a Trainee award?: YES or NO

Trainee Awards

We particularly encourage residents-fellows in training to submit their scientific work for of the most rewarding sections of the annual meeting. A select number of resident abstracts will be awarded a cash stipend of $500 to defray travel costs to the meeting in Atlanta.  Trainee Award winners will also receive free meeting registration. The trainee must be the first author and presenting author of the accepted abstract to be eligible for a Trainee award.  A letter from the trainees’ Program Director confirming the resident/fellow is in good standing in their training program must accompany their submission.
